BBQ Fundraiser and Car Show

On the last day of scarecrow days last weekend, there was a car show and a BBQ in the town parking lot. The BBQ was put on by Tony Laluks curling team and the proceeds of around $1700 went to his family!

Scarecrow Day Winners

A Special Note

This year we celebrated the 30th annual scarecrow days! Souris Chamber Facebook posted a nice message on Souris Talks on Thursday, here it is below.

Who remembers this beautiful face?? The final wrap-up meeting for Scarecrow Days was tonight, and the committee wants to share with you some final thoughts from the woman who started it all! We invited Kim to attend this year to help us celebrate, but it wasn't in the cards. (she is now enjoying life in BC) She did send us greetings though, that we want to share with the community:

"To my Dear Dear community of Souris, It has been a few years since I have lived amongst you, but it is with the fondest of recollections that I write this note. You were such a support to ALL members of my family during our time living with you. In so many ways... too numerous and significant to list?! I know that you've continued to love and nurture your citizens and neighbours as you did me and my family. Your continued participation in the Annual scarecrow days demonstrates that you are as community-minded as you've always been, your faithfulness to this event for the past 30 years demonstrates that you haven't changed. Even the fact that you still recognize me as the originator, shows that you value your people and their ideas and look for opportunities to recognize and support community endeavours. And as far as me being the originator, it was just an idea that I put forward to Sheila Kirkup, who said, 'if you build a scarecrow, I'll build a scarecrow"..... and the rest is history. How my kids and I enjoyed riding around town each October and experiencing all the creativity and fun that Souris showcased. I am so pleased that Scarecrow Days has continued to be an event that demonstrates your community spirit, artistic abilities, creative ingenuity and enthusiasm for community life. I'm proud of you and pleased to say that I was once a member of your community. Congratulations Souris on 30 years of Scarecrow Days!!! Sincerely,
 Kim Leskiw"
