Class of 69

August, 20 - 22 was an awesome weekend for the Class of ‘69. On Saturday the class dedicated a bench to the town of Souris. The bench with 95 names on it, is located at the south end of the Souris Hotel. The Class of ‘69 wanted to thank Souris for all the opportunities that have been given to them during their high school years.

In 1979 after the Class of ‘69 had their 10-year reunion, the committee purchased a bench. This bench, which was in dire need of repair was located last summer in the town parking lot behind Pharmasave. Thanks to a couple of classmates and the fine workmanship of Darren Janz, the bench was restored and on Saturday it was placed down by the Souris and Glenwood Pool.

The Class of ‘69 also presented a cheque for $12,500.00 to Hillcrest Museum to help with the much-needed roof repairs.

GoodWill Tutoring

Information on a great local business!!

Goodwill Tutoring Services is operated and owned by Jessie Goodwill. Jessie grew up on a farm near Souris. She was born with a hearing disability that created many life challenges which she overcame with the help of hearing aids than a cochlear implant, and encouragement and help from family, friends, and school staff. The tutoring services provided by a local tutor helped Jessie improve her school grades remarkably up to the 80s and 90s in middle and high school. This extra help created opportunities in education, travel, employment, and volunteering. After receiving her teaching degree and working in various places in Manitoba and overseas, and being asked by relatives and friends to tutor them or their child, Jessie saw a need to provide extra educational services. Therefore, Goodwill Tutoring Services opened up in September 2019. It provides Grade 5-12 tutoring services, mainly mathematics, for Brandon and its surrounding rural communities, including Souris. The services are available in-person at an office in Brandon or online. Check out the website, www.goodwilltutoringservices.ca, for the complete list of courses available to tutor. Contact Jessie to book at 204-729-7513 (text preferred) or goodwilltutoringservices@hotmail.com.
