Peacock Days & Fair 2023
Wow, what a busy weekend it was in Souris last weekend! I hope everyone got to get out and enjoy something. I think my favorite part was the Friday night at The Junction. Below is a thank you post from the Peacock Days Committee and then lots of pictures! Enjoy, and have a super Sunday :)
The Peacock Days and Fair Committee would like to thank everyone who supported this year’s event through attendance, volunteering, sponsorships, and partnerships.
We’d like to thank our exclusive volunteer sponsor Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, our event partners: Doggy Drop Inn & Spaw, Plaza Petals/ First St. Boutique, Souris & Glenwood Chamber of Commerce, LT’s Corner Store, PHARMASAVE, Souris & Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department, Souris Beautification, Souris BPO Elks Lodge #21, Souris Cooperative Daycare, Souris Home Hardware, Southwest Classic Cruizers, Victoria Park Junction Committee and Whitfield Drugs.
We are grateful for our financial sponsors whose financial and in-kind donations help with operating and organizational costs. The comprehensive list was printed on the official Peacock Days brochure and a photo of that portion of the program is attached. We also thank the individual contributions over the weekend through donations and purchases of 50/50 and raffle tickets.
And we could not have made this event happen without the volunteers who donated their time to help out over the course of the weekend.
Thank-you to each and every one of you for your part in making Peacock Days 2023 a success!
I asked for the privilege of writing the thank-you on behalf of the Peacock Days and Fair Committee because I wanted to include a few personal thank-yous of my own which include a bit of history...
First of all, thanks to Loretta Turner who opened the door to the creation of Peacock Days and Fair in 2021 when I was invited to participate in the Summer Events Committee. Through the planning process, the idea for Peacock Days as a summer event emerged. I enlisted the help of Kayla Logoet and we began to formulate a vision for the weekend. Due to Covid restrictions that year, both the junior rodeo and summer fair were canceled. After a discussion with Jessie Goodwill, the Fair joined the Peacock Days weekend and the inaugural event took place in August. The response to the combined effort of Peacock Days and Fair was extremely favorable. In 2022 Peacock Days and Fair moved to the original Fair dates – the second week of July and the rest as they say is history.
My second set of thank-yous go to Kayla Logoet and Jessie Goodwill for their dedication to the organization, planning, and development of promotional materials - they have been wonderful to collaborate with - and the Souris-Glenwood Agricultural Society and the Souris Chamber of Commerce for believing in this event and helping it grow.
This year the Peacock Days and Fair Committee welcomed Cindy Russell as a Chamber representative and voice of local businesses, and Janelle Eastman and Sydney Wright who helped with the organization of vendors on the Crescent.
Each year has been bigger and better than the one before and the Peacock Days and Fair Committee will continue to work to build upon this year’s success. Stay tuned!
