The History of The Old Oak Tree

Sadly on the night of June 20 during the storm, the Old Oak Tree fell down, which was discovered on the morning of June 21st. A very sad day for Souris indeed. My son and I took a walk up to the tree to take a picture and I looked up the history of it to learn more! Here is what I came across.

The Old Oak Tree is one of Manitoba’s oldest trees, with speculation of it being around 600 years old. It was officially designated as a Manitoba Heritage Tree on October 1 st 2015, it is one if three trees in Manitoba to receive this, with the other two in the Winnipeg area.

Legend had it that the tree offered an aura of spiritual peace and knowledge and was a focal point in Manitoba. I wonder if the rings will be counted to see how old it really is?! Lots of people were commenting on ideas on how to keep The Old Oak tree going, like propping it up to keep growing and planting its saplings. I guess we will see what happens soon!
